SUMMARY:UWF Book Club
DESCRIPTION:The UWF (United Women in Faith) Book Club will meet Friday, August 26th. We will meet at the church to carpool to Hot Springs at 10 a.m. We will return between 2 and 3 p.m. “A Short Time to Stay Here,” by Terry Roberts, is a novel based on the reality of pre-WWI Hot Springs. Shortly after the US had declared war, 2,500 Germans on luxury liners were in the New York harbor.  Col. Rumbaugh of Hot Springs had negotiated with the War Department to house those Germans in Hot Springs; they were brought by rail to the resort, where makeshift housing was placed on the lawns of the hotel so that the Germans might be watched. The novel tells the story of that now historic time. We will discuss the book on site of what used to be as we try to imagine the reality of those days.
